Beautiful Melancholy

A blog dedicated to finding beauty out of sadness and the mundane.

Random Thought No.36 by Wesley Mayer

My heart was disfigured, burned by another wounded soul, both of us unable to love, our problems and sadness the only connection we shared.

"Have you ever been in love? Horrible isn’t it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens up your heart and it means that someone can get inside you and mess you up. You build up all these defenses, you build up a whole suit of armor, so that nothing can hurt you, then one stupid person, no different from any other stupid person, wanders into your stupid life…You give them a piece of you. They didn’t ask for it. They did something dumb one day, like kiss you or smile at you, and then your life isn’t your own anymore. Love takes hostages. It gets inside you. It eats you out and leaves you crying in the darkness, so simple a phrase like ‘maybe we should be just friends’ turns into a glass splinter working its way into your heart. It hurts. Not just in the imagination. Not just in the mind. It’s a soul-hurt, a real gets-inside-you-and-rips-you-apart pain. I hate love."
- Neil Gaiman
"When one has once fully entered the realm of love, the world — no matter how imperfect — becomes rich and beautiful, it consists solely of opportunities for love."
- Søren Kierkegraard
"At the center of religion is love. I love you and I forgive you. I am like you and you are like me. I love all people. I love the world. I love creating. Everything in our life should be based on love."
- Ray Bradbury
"All love is sweet,
Given or returned. Common as light is love,
And its familiar voice wearies not ever.
They who inspire it most are fortunate,
As I am now; but those who feel it most
Are happier still"
- Percy Bysshe Shelly
"To cheat oneself out of love is the most terrible deception; it is an eternal loss for which there is no reparation, either in time or in eternity."
- Soren Kierkegaard
"We should be forever cured of romanticism if, before thinking of the one we love, we tried to achieve the state of mind we shall be in when we have ceased to love her."
- Marcel Proust (via quotesforintellectuals)
"I have loved to the point of madness; That which is called madness, That which to me, Is the only sensible way to love."
- Françoise Sagan (via cassiemclean)
